1820/ Moses Austin convinced the Spanish governor to bring 300 families to settle in Texas.
Reaction of the Mexicans
Moses Austin died a year after. His son, Stephen Austin wanted to fulfill his destiny. Stephen inherited the land grant and brought 300 families to Texas. This created the first legal American Settlement.
The Americans in Texas did not follow the four main rules in their new settlement. The four rules were, no slaves, learn to speak Spanish, abide by the rules and finally convert to catholicism.
Mexico reacted by, reaffirming the Mexican Constitutional prohibition against slavery. They also made a chain of military posts and prohibited trade with the US. Finally, they stopped further immigration from America.
