Charles called Parliament twice the second was the The long parliament was when English Parliament was summoned and opened for 20 years from 1640 to 1660.It followed the craziness of the short parliament and Charles intended to pass finance bills and many important steps to help fund the bishops war in Scotland.
Charles called Parliament twice his first was the short Parliament as when Parliament was summoned by King Charles I of England on the 20th of February in 1640 and sat from 13 April to 5 May 1640. And was called the short parliament as it lasted only 3 weeks and Charles tried to primarily to obtain money to finance his military struggle with Scotland in the Bishops war
Charles wanted to arrest 5 very important MPs and so spied on them till the time was right to arrest them but someone told the 5 MPs about the plan and before Charles arrested them they went into hiding making Charles look a fool. And the Speaker of the House refused to tell him where they went.
On the 22nd of August Charles I raises his royalist flag in Yorkshire asking his supporters to come and fight and take over Parliament and many joined him and many of parliaments army was already: ready and so the first battle of the English Civil War had begun
