We came here for religious freedom as Puritans.
John Winthrop will kick you out if you are not a Puritan.
The soil is not great to farm.
We have little say in our government.
People came to Massachusetts for religious freedom as Puritans. John Winthrop founded Massachusetts Bay and offered religious to only Puritans. If you were not a Puritan, you would get kicked off the land.Roger Williams was kicked off Massachusetts Bay. He welcome all religious freedom to somewhere called" Providence" that is now in Rhode Island.
Massachusetts Bay had poor soil and it was hard to farm and have plantations.Rhode Island had even rich soil so it was easy for them to plant crops and farm. That was difficult to farm and unsuitable for crops. Mild, short summers and long, cold winters.
Rhode Island's economy was that the colonists made their living fishing, whaling, shipbuilding and shipping. The economy of other parts of Colonial Rhode Island was based on timber products, the fur trade, maple syrup, copper, livestock products, horses, rum, whiskey and beer.
