Storyboard Text

  • "Yes, madam, he was of that consort."
  • Act 2 Scene 1
  • Is Edgar one of the disorderly knights that is upon my father?
  • Act 2 Scene 2
  • Hello.
  • Hello, my sir.
  • Act 2 Scene 2
  • "... For pilferings and most common trespasses are punished with."
  • Let me out!
  • In Act 2 Scene 1, the Duke of Cornwall and Regan come to visit Gloucester. Before they come, Edmund warns Edgar that their father is searching for him and tells him to leave. Regan and the Duke of Cornwall show up and immediately believe Edmunds lies.
  • Act 2 Scene 3
  • What're you doing in here?
  • "Whiles I may scape, I will preserve myself;"
  • Oswald and Kent meet outside of Gloucester's castle. Oswald doesn't recognize Kent from a previous fight that they had, but Kent recognizes him. Kent starts to abuse Oswald.
  • Act 2 Scene 4
  • How must I do that?
  • "O, sir, you are old!" "... Say you have wronged her."
  • Oswald cries for help and Edmund comes immediately and eventually following him comes Regan, Cornwall and Gloucester. They eventually lock Kent up in stocks outside.
  • Act 2 Scene 4
  • I'm sorry dad, you're just way too old.
  • It's either us or your servants.
  • Kent is sleeping in the stocks and Edgar comes in. He explains how he is escaping and then gets right to work. He stripes himself of his formal clothing and rubs himself in dirt wanting to look like a beggar always looking for food and shelter; "disguising" himself.
  • Lear, his fool and a knight all go to Gloucester's castle to speak to Regan and Cornwall. They refuse at first but then finally give in and speak with him. Lear tells her about how rude Goneril has been to him and asks for help. Regan tells him that he is just getting old and grouchy and needs to beg for forgiveness from Goneril.
  • "Ask her forgiveness?"
  • Lear asks Regan for shelter but she refuses. Then Goneril shows up, Lear not knowing that she was coming but Regan knowing from letters that she had been receiving from her. Regan and Goneril then team up and tell their dad that he is getting to old and to weak and that for him to be able to stay with either of them he must give up half of his men. Then things get worse and they refuse all of his servants. Lear gets very angry and sets a curse on his daughters then heads outside into an upcoming storm which he was unaware of. His daughters then demand that the gates to the castle be locked so that he may not be able to get back in
  • How can this be happening to me? I do not understand!
