The soldiers are walking through the battlefields, with their backs turned from the flares and bombs going off behind them, feeling extremely exhausted.
They look crippled, both mentally and physically. Some have lost their feet and are limping back to their site. Others are bent over, “coughing like hags”. The soldiers have become numb to the pain and terrors of war.
A chlorine gas bomb has been dropped right in front of them. Everyone is fumbling to get their gas masks on in time. In the corner, is a soldier yelling and screaming. The soldier drowns from inside out, as his lungs fill from fluid. He could not get the mask on in time.
Dulce et decorum est.
The dead soldier is put in a wagon, and carried out of the battlefield. His face looks like a devil, with blood gushing out of his mouth. The scene is vile and horrendous.
The soldier is having dreams of his friend in war that died from the chlorine bomb. In his nightmare, he can see the soldier plunging at him while choking and drowning from the inside.
A teen's father is telling him to join the military, and discussing how honorable and noble a job it is to serve your country. However, this parent does not know the reality of war.
