  • Lennie what the hell is that in your hand? Give it to me, you aint playin with no mice!
  • It´s just a mouse, and I´m just pettin it!
  • I want ketchup with my beans. I only like my beans with ketchup.
  • Sorry, we aint got no ketchup, so eat up.
  • Say. What the hell is this?!
  • The boss was expectin´ you last night, he was sore about it, here are your two beds.
  • Please Please can I have one! I can take care of it!
  • At the start of the book, characters George and Lennie are introduced. During their trip to the ranch after the incident with the woman´s dress, we get a glimpse of their friendship, and lennie´s childish tendencies. He carries a mouse and pets it, George disagrees, and we get a backstory on the mice.
  • I know Lennie, I know.
  • She had 9 of em, i drowned 4, she couldn´t feed em.
  • When night strikes, the men take a break and start a warm campfire. They eat beans and drink water. But when they´re about to eat, Lennie whines for ketchup, and insists on eating beans with ketchup. This is a very good example of Lennie´s childish characteristics.
  • Toward the beginning of chapter two, George and Lennie finally reach the ranch/bunkhouse. The area is small and dirty, and has a bunk bed. They first meet an old man with a broom named Candy. Candy tells them about the boss and they discuss. George spots a bug spray, and gets suspicious.
  • I´m sorry I don´t mean to hurt him!
  • Lennie do something!
  • You son of a b****!
  • In the middle of chapter 2, the men get used to the bunk house. They meet a character named slim, he has nine puppies an drowns four because of an unfit amount of resources. Lennie freaks out at the sight of puppies, and cries in excitement to George. George ultimately gets Lennie a puppy, Slim agrees.
  • As the men get more settled in the ranch, chapter 3 begins. Candy now close to the men, has an old smelly dog he loves and cares for. Carlson insists on putting the canine out of its misery. Candy finally agrees, and Carlson murders the dog. Candy remains damaged and in shock.
  • Toward the end of chapter 3, the men are in a barn. There is almost evrey introduced character at that barn. After discussing their dream, Lennie starts laughing at the thought of it. Curley gets the wrong idea, and thinks that Lennie is laughing at him. Curley throws a few violent punches and knocks back Lennie. George yells for him to do something, so he crushes every bone in Curley´s right hand.
