Stand you a while aloof. (to VIOLA) Cesario,Thou know’st no less but all. I have unclaspedTo thee the book even of my secret soul. Therefore, good youth, address thy gait unto her;Be not denied access, stand at her doors,And tell them there thy fixed foot shall growTill thou have audience.
The more fool, madonna, to mourn for your brother’s soul being in heaven. Take away the fool, gentlemen.
Act 1, Scene 5
What think you of this fool, Malvolio? Doth he not mend?
Yes, and shall do till the pangs of death shake him. Infirmity, that decays the wise, doth ever make the better fool.
I am no fee’d post, lady. Keep your purse. My master, not myself, lacks recompense.Love make his heart of flint that you shall love,And let your fervor, like my master’s, bePlaced in contempt. Farewell, fair cruelty
Act 1, Scene 5
What is your parentage?”“Above my fortunes, yet my state is well.I am a gentleman.” I’ll be sworn thou art;Thy tongue, thy face, thy limbs, actions, and spirit, Do give thee fivefold blazon. Not too fast! Soft, soft! Unless the master were the man. How now?Even so quickly may one catch the plague?Methinks I feel this youth’s perfectionsWith an invisible and subtle stealthTo creep in at mine eyes.
This scene is when Viola (Cesario) goes to Orsino's court to seek employment. He is told by Orsino to go and plant himself outside Olivia's house and not leave until she lets him in. Orsino is behaving madly in love in this scene and cannot think anything beyond that. Viola is resourceful, witty and intelligent as she thinks of a way to enter Orsino's court (dressing up as a man) very quickly.
This scene is when Feste (fool), Malvolio and Olivia are introduced. We can see her that Feste is very witty, intelligent and behaves very smartly in order to prove that Olivia is truly the fool. In response, Malvolio behaves very rudely as he doesn't like the idea of jokes and fun.
This is the scene in which Cesario and Olivia first meet. Olivia immediately falls in love with him and she is impulsive, temperamental (she is mourning her brother’s death, once she meets Cesario she is concerned with love) and starts showing frantic and extreme behaviour by asking Malvolio to give Cesario a ring. Cesario is shown to be charming and witty in this scene as he attracts Olivia's love immediately.
