  • Papa Doc was a dictator who tormented Haitians and used the country's money for his desires. he used it to get things he wanted and not to profit and benefit the country of Haiti. There many more leaders that caused Haiti to struggle but of all these are the most recent of leaders who tormented Haiti.

  • Many believe that Haiti's troubled economy is due to their lack of taking action to restore but it actually has to do with other figures outside of Haiti; Bill Clinton caused more hardship to Haiti after intervening because of his political policies. His intentions were based on making sure that the US was not affected by Haiti and so that there wouldn't be an overpopulation of Haiti refugees in America. 
  • A military order was instrusted to go after the newly elected president of Haiti after he refused to give up his power after he signed the agreement personally in the US.   • 1994
  • The underlying reason for the US 'failing" in recognizing Haiti beforehand, had to do with race. The senate was aware that it could have recognized Haiti because then they would then have people of African descent at diplomatic balls but decided on not proceeding which would indicate race has a role.
  • The relations Haiti and America revolve around race and this is shown because Haiti was not given recognition until Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation proclamtion during the Civil War.
  • 1863
  • The US "helped" Haiti after the 2010 earthquake struck but instead caused more destruction to Haiti's economy and to the Haitians. They sent large amounts of U.S.-subsidized rice which costs less than locally grown crops. Haitians were not able to sell their rice and get money in order to buy things that their families needed. However, there has been speculations that the food aid provided by the US is being sold through the black market so there truly isn't a trust built yet between both nations.
