Sargon Of Akkad was the first ruler to rule The Akkadian Empire; the empire that he and the Akkadians created. The Akkadian Empire was the first empire in the entire world! Akkad was also known for his conquests of Sumerian City States.
The society was usually fair for it's time. Women had fair rights; they could keep property and money Hammurabi ruled Babylon; Babylon was named capital of his empire. Babylon was an ancient speaking state.
War-like people named Assyrians made the next greatest empire in 650 BCE. They had new weapons and war strategies. They built moveable towers that solders could climb up to reach city walls. They also developed new ways of attacking cities.

Neo-Babylonians came more than a thousand years after the Babylonians. Their empire began in 626 BC, and ended in 539 BC. Nebuchadnezzar was king of this empire. He created the Hanging Gardens of Babylon in 604-561 BCE.

Hammurabi made a code, and he put the writing on an 8 feet stone tablet. This code of laws was created in 1750 BC, and it lasted until 1686 BC. It is said that Hammurabi recived these laws from Shamash, the sun god. The laws were very specific, and very extreme.
