In the early chapters, it is shown that Jem and Scout are afraid of Boo, from that they hear about him attacking his parents. Same for the fact how they are considered that is why Boo is staying in th house.
In Chapter 19, Mayella Ewell is shown to be highly fearful. Who she is fearful i seeming to be Bob Ewell. This is primarily as if she admits to the court that Bob beats her, she'd get a worse beating.
Shown in Chapter 20, Tom Robinson was quite afraid. As he was a black person, he was at a disadvantage from the start, but with being acussed of raping Mayella Ewell, this made him even more nervous. He could be killed for this, which did in fact terrify.
Tom Robinson was called a rapist and other such things, when he was really a good guy. He always helped Mayella without asking to be paid. He even assisted a few others, but he was accused of rape and sent to jail, where he was fatally shot.
As having helped Scout and Jem, Boo is just wanting to be a good friend. However, the thought of putting him up to showing them could very well make Boo want to stay inside for the rest of his life.
