Louis XVI was born at Versailles, a palace in France, on August 23, 1754
He was born to Louis, Dauphin of France and Mari-Josephe of Saxony
Louis XVI became king when he was only 11, which was one of his downfalls because it affected him a lot becoming king so young.
His older brother died in 1761, at the age of 9. Then on December 20, 1765 his father died from tuberculosis. His mother was very sad after all the family tradegies, and got tuberculosis and died on March 13, 1767.
He was very ill-prepared to take over the throne. He was a very shy boy, so he didn't have good communication skills.
Got married on May 16, 1770 to Marie Antoinette, at the age of 15.
One advantage was he focused on religion and foreign policy. He called upon an order that granted French non-Catholics legal status and their right to practice faith openly. He was a Roman Catholic.
He was still very immature, and he faced enormous debt. Most of his government problems lasted his whole reign.
