A Vampire, A Fairy, and Cultural Competence

Storyboard Text

  • One day in a mythical land, a vampire walked into a juice bar.
  • A vampire? What's he doing here?
  • It was rare to see a vampire in town, and he got some stares as he walked in.
  • One of the creatures staring at him was a fairy. After a few minutes, he decided to approach the vampire.
  • One cranberry juice please!
  • The fairy had never met a vampire before. But he had heard many stories.
  • Excuse me! Is it true that you vampires hunt other creatures?
  • The vampire was very surprised and very upset.
  • The fairy hadn't expected such a response. Shocked, he flew back to the corner he had been in before.
  • We vampires are very peaceful! We wouldn't hurt anyone unless it was necessary.
  • Oh, is that what they tell you? How ridiculous.
  • Now, if you don't have anything nice to say, I suggest you leave me alone. Good day.
  • Hey man, listen. What I said early was pretty rude, and I'm sorry about that.
  • But he felt bad. The vampire hadn't asked for the stories about him to be told. Perhaps he was actually nicer than he thought.
  • I shouldn't blindly believe what I hear in stories.
  • Would it... be okay if you told me more about you and your people?
  • He went back to the vampire and apologized.
  • Once again, the vampire was surprised. But this time, he was also quite happy. No one had ever asked him that before.
  • The two became fast friends, and the fairy learned more about vampires that day than he had ever learned from the stories he had heard. Now he knew that the stories weren't always right, and from now on, he hoped to be more respectful of other creatures.
  • Thank you for apologizing. And yes, I'd be happy to. Have a seat.
