  • The game is getting scarce here. We need to move west in search of better game and land.
  • I'll start loading the wagon.
  • Are we there yet?
  • We need to find a creek first.
  • Now we have to cross the river.
  • During the nineteenth century, over 200,000 thousand men, women, and children traveled West in search of new land.
  • This buck would make for a fine dinner
  • It took five months to travel the 2,000 miles on an ox-drawn wagons.
  • Now that we found some fertile farming land we can get settled
  • Sounds like a plan
  • The journey was difficult and they faced many hardships.

  • While on the trail, they hunted for food often.
  • Once they found land, they built their house and a stable for the animals.
  • Once settled man had few options for career. The most common one were: farmers or woodcutters. Children often helped out in the field.
