Bilbo and the dwarves with Gandalf are left on the edge of a river where the Eagles dropped them off and they start to head to a "friend" that Gandalf knows.
Gandalf knows that his "friend" Beorn does not deal well with visitors so he makes a plan to bring the expedition 2 at a time while telling him there tale and it works Beorn lets them stay while they rest up for the rest of their journey
The party then left after 2 days with horses lent from Beorn. The party then headed toward the ominous forest of Mirkwood. While on the way Bilbo thought that he saw a bear following them and told Gandalf but Gandalf told him not to worry.
At the entrance to Mirkwood, Gandalf leaves the party to do something else he needs to do. Gandalf tells the dwarves to let thier ponies go back to Beorn and tells them how he was following them as a bear and making sure they take care of his ponies. After this, they begin their long journey through Mirkwood.
After the first few days, Bilbo and the dwarves are already miserable and wishing to be out. When they are starting to run out of food they see lights in the woods off the path. They think that they can go off the path to find the lights.
After they left the path the dwarves got caught by giant spiders. But Bilbo had his ring on so he was not caught and he helped to free the dwarves and that is when he killed one of the spiders with his dagger then he names it sting.
