  • In 1881 the right to share to land in El Savador was banned. this meant that the only one person could own the land. The rich people in the country then took over the land. The poorer farmers were then forced into working for the rich people so they could keep their houses.  
  • In 1929 there was a severe change of price in coffee. The rich owners of the land decided not to harvest that year.
  • Since the rich people didn't harvest the crops the poor people had to starve. 
  • The poor people didn't like this. They decided to have massive protests. 
  • The rich didn't like this and the military stopped the poor people from getting any justice, equality or fairness. 
  • Some of the punishments that the military gave the poor included beatings, general harassment, torture,abduction, rape, people 'disappearing' and public executions.
