Hello Class, Today we will be learning about how to add integers.
There are 3 ways to add integers. You could add a positive number to a positive number. You can add a negative integer to a negative integer. Or, you can add a positive integer to a negative integer or vice versa.
The first way we will be discussing is: adding a positive integer to a positive integer. If you visualize this on a number line, the numbers are traveling to the right so therefore their value is increasing. One example is: 121+23=144. Another example is 10+101=111
We will now be talking about how to add a negative integer to a negative integer. What is happening is that when you add a negative to a negative, you are going to the left of it. An easy method to do it is, add the 2 negative integers together and put a negative sign in front of it. For example: -52+(-16)=-68
The last thing we are going to talk about today is adding a positive integer to a negative integer and vice versa. An easy method to do it is to subtract the positive number from the negative number and if needed, put an equal sign in front of it. An example of that is: -42+20=-22.
Thank you for learning about how to add integers. This comic was created By: Siddharth Maruvada.
