This story shows that Susie doesn't have enough money to buy an ice cream, so she told Rachel that she wasn't hungry but in reality, she didn't have enough money to buy an ice cream.
This shows sociological imagination in the sense that Susie hides her feelings because she is ashamed, and her milieu is noticeably, different looking than Rachel's.
