On December 10, 1988, both U.S and Spain signed the treaty of Paris.
That's a deal.
Under this treaty, you'll give Cuba it's independence and handover Puerto Rico, Guam, and Philippines.
Wow there. If you want the Philippines, you got to pay us20 million dollars.
Back in the Philippines, the U.S has many camps established to fight guerrillas.
You American people want to take over! We want independence and we'll fight for it. Well fight next to Emilio Aguinaldo!
We'll improve education, transportation, health, etc. for stopping this nonsense.
When Cuba gained Independence, they had conditions for it by the U.S which was the Platt Amendment.
For the safe purposes, you Cubans won't make treaties with other countries that will weaken ya, we Americans can buy or lease land from you, you'll will keep y debts low and we the U.S well be able to interfere to protect ya and keep order.
So we'll be an American protectorate. That's a deal.
The U.S passed the Foraker act which established a government for Puerto Rico. Later they could gain Indepndence and elect their own officials.
Puerto Rico we'' have a decent government with legislators and a governor with a council appointed by our president. You'll have a self-government.
Can't we just be part of the United States as a state or be independent? We are more than capable of been one of both.
Back in the U.S, Americans were debating if they should annexed the Philippines.
I believe it's a good idea to annex the Philippines because we'll have a Pacific Naval Base, and we'll be able to help the poor, increasing our imperialism.
But it will impact economic benfits, it will increase competition leading to lower wages. Many people also don't like to see the U.S as a imperial power. It destroys it's principles of democratic republic.
Before the war in 1897, America invested 700 million dollars overseas nosiness wise. By 1904, it was 2.5 billion.
Our country is in good shape. With our sugar and tobacco industry's increasing thanks to Cuba and Hawaii, it's helping our economy and affairs.
But we have paid 400 million for our wars and many have given up their lives, almost 10000 soldiers died. Now we are investing 64 to 135 million dollars on building naval ships.
