Look Odysseus, its Hermes, lets invite him for food and ask him why he is here.
For seven years after Odysseus was victorious over Troy he was trapped on an island with a goddess, Calypso. One day the messenger god, Hermes, came to them.
Calypso's island was very beautiful. Even Hermes, a god, appreciated the unbelievable smells and sights of the island. He went into Calypso's cave and didn't seem to recognize Odysseus.
Odysseus lived with Calypso, however, every morning he waited on the rocky shore for a ship to bring him back home.
Yes I finally found land!!!
After Hermes left, Calypso brought Odysseus into the cave to eat and talk.
Calypso asks Odysseus why he wants to go back home to his wife? She argues that being immortal and staying with her is better than returning. She questions if she is more desirable and interesting than his wife is?
Calypso helped Odysseus build a raft so that he can try to get back home. Odysseus left the island for the first time in seven years and floated around for over twenty days until he found another island.
