Storyboard Text

  • Auggie! How could you cut off your braid?!
  • You're watching Star Wars again?
  • You'll never understand.
  • Come on Auggie, let's go play!
  • Usually, a Padawan braid would symbolize something a Jedi apprentice would wear. In Wonder, August cutting off his braid is a sign of growth and change. It shows the transition from old life of being homeschooled, to a new life of real school. It shows that he is not a baby anymore and he cares what people think about him now.
  • Usually, Star Wars would symbolize something good vs. evil and also can represent fighting. In Wonder, Star Wars symbolizes August's escape from being different. It shows that Star Wars is the only chance for August to be like the other kids and be "normal"; not as the kid with the weird face.
  • Usually, an astronaut helmet would symbolize something an astronaut wears when they go on a mission. In Wonder, Auggie wearing his astronaut helmet shows that he is not confident and that he is nervous. Because he wears his helmet everywhere he goes and barely takes it off, it shows that he doesn't like what's underneath the helmet. He wears the helmet so that he could be treated as a normal boy not someone who "looks weird."
