1st stage: I am in the associal stage. This means i generally have no preference between objects animals and humans.
2nd stage: I now have indiscriminate attachments. This means have the ability tell people apart. Additionally, I favour humans over inanimate objects. Despite this, I do not have a strong preference for specific people
3rd stage: I am now have specific attachments. This often happens at around 7 months of age. This means I have formed a specific and Primary attachment to one particular individual (the person who shows most sensitivity to my signals). If separated from this individual, I can show separation anxiety. When faced with strangers I also show stranger anxiety.
4th stage: I now have Multiple attachments. These often follow after the first attachment is made. I show attachment behaviours towards several different people such as siblings, grandparents and childminders. My fear of strangers starts to weaken, This often happens at about 18 months.
