  • "A deed of Natures own vilence overwhelmed them both"
  • "Caught fast.Ho, what a jest, Ulrich von Gradwitz snared in his stolen forest.there's real justice for you!"
  • "You and i and our foresters, without no cursed interlopers to come btween us."
  • Before they could even speak a word the storm knocked a tree down and it split and fell on top of them pinning them both under it.
  • Ulrich was thankful to be alive but also angry​ at the situation his in and started cursing. although George was in the same situation, he started laughing mockingly and vilently .
  • "neighbour​,if you will help me to bury the old quarrel i-i will ask you to be my friend."
  • "Ulrich von Gradwitz, I will​ be your friend."
  • Although they both know that their​ man may not be the first to arrive, they continued mocking each other.
  • Ulrich had a drink of wine from his wine-flask and it helped ease the pain. Although George is his enemy Ulrich offered him his drink, but gorge refused to drink with him.
  • "I don't drink wine with an enemy."
  • They both realize they have been foolish and that the land with not worth anyone's life and they started calling for help together. After many try Ulrich finally saw a group of shadows coming down the hill towards them.

  • "No" said Ulrich with a laugh, the idiotic chattering laugh of a man unstrung with a hideous fear.
