  • Jamie (mostly) loved School. He loved English, but he never quite understood math...
  • But, the thing he loved the most, had to be daydreaming, mostly about battles
  • He fought long and hard, only to find out what he had been doing...
  • One day in math class, his teacher Ms. Molly, asked to see him after class, he was so scared!
  • See me after class young man!
  • I know that math can be hard sometimes, so here's one way for you to remember this. If you are adding 2 numbers that aren't both positive or negative, you have to do a battle. The way a battle works is, lets say you have 2 numbers, -2 + 5, what you have to do is, split the numbers into 2 teams, positive and negative. You then have to figure out which team has more soldiers, in this case the-2 and 5, the positives win. You then figure out how many soldiers are left over, in our case 3. The answer is positive because positives won the battle.
  • Turns out, she just wanted to explain how to add and subtract integers using battles, she knew him so well.
  • Then, he wanted to try a problem of his own...
  • -8 + 5 =
  • So, if you have the negative and positive team, the negative team has more soldiers so they win and the number is negative. There are three negative soldiers left, so negative 3 is the answer!
  • His daydreams now looked more like this...
  • -10 + 7 =
  • vs.
  • vs.
