  • Odysseus and his remaining men, are stranded in the sea
  • Odysseus and his men are directed to the land of the Lotus Eaters
  • "Odysseus and his crew raid the Cicones, robbing and killing people until the Cicone army kills 72 of odysseus' men and drives the rest out to sea." (897)
  • The men who ate the lotus never returned
  • "Nine days I drifed on the teeming sea before dangerous high winds." (897)
  • Odysseus found the men and tied them to the boats
  • "Upon the tenth we came to the coastline of the Lotus Eaters, who live upon that flowr. We landed there to take on water. All ships' companies mustered alongside for the mid-day meal," (897).
  • "Then I sent out two picked men and a runner to learn what race of men the land sustained. They fell in, soon enough, with Lotus Eaters, who showed no will to do us harm, only offering sweet lotus to our friends - but those who ate this honeyed plant, the Lotus, never cared to report, nor to return." (897)
  • "I drove them, all three wailing, to the ships, tied them down under their rowing benches, called the rest: 'All hands aboard; come clear the beach and no one taste the Lotus, or you'll lose your hope of home." (898)
