  • Rising Action
  • The characters are introduced, the narrator and the old man. The narrator begins to persuade the reader that he is, in fact, sane rather than insane.
  • Climax
  • The narrator has a certain conflict with his mind, and trying to convince himself along with the reader that he isn't mad. He also has a certain infatuation with time.
  • Falling Action
  • He begins to explain his problem with the old man's blue vulture like eye. Every night over the course of a week at exactly midnight he sneaks into the old man's room and watches him sleep.
  • Resolution
  • Tick! Tick!
  • I CONFESS!!!
  • On the eighth night the narrator finally decides to get rid of the eye once and for all, but by doing so he must kill the old man. He knocks the old man to the ground and throws the mattress over his head suffocating the old man; therefore killing him.
  • The narrator knows someone will eventually catch on that he's missing, so he decided to get rid of the body without leaving a trace. He dismembers the old man limb by limb like a puzzle. However he did this in the tub to allow all the blood wash away.
  • Three cops eventually come because the neighbor heard a scream coming from the old man's room. They begin asking him questions about if he's seen the old man. He says "no" then starts to hear a strange ticking noise. This causes him to go crazy, and he eventually confesses to the cops that he killed him.
