The Shinto Creation Story
This storyboard does not have a description.
Two siblings Izanagi and Izanami were sent down from heaven to create the earth
Izanami, as a woman, spoke first in the marriage ritual, which was seen as improper behaviour
"Ah! What a fair and lovely youth!"
As a result of this, Izanami gave birth to a deformed leech child, who was looked on with disgust and sent out into the ocean.
"Ah! What a fair and lovely maiden!"
The marriage ritual was repeated, this time in the correct order of speech. It was successful, and the couple went on to create the 14 islands of Japan and 35 kami.
During the birth of the fire kami, Kagu-Tsuchi-no-Kami, Izanami was badly burned and died. Izanagi was heartbroken.
Izanagi missed Izanai so much, that he travelled to the land of the dead - Yomi-no-kuni to find her. She wasn't free to come back with him, because she had eaten food in Yomi. She told him to wait there as she tried to leave.
