The scene that I portrayed is when Ishmael and 6 of his other friends were walking through the woods trying to get to Yele and they started to hear loud crashing noises. They didn’t know what it was but they wanted to find out so that they could keep moving past it. Kanei crawled closer to see what it was and he told the others that it was water and sand, lots of sand. Kanei motioned to others to come towards him as he started to walk onto the sand and close to the water. They had reached the Atlantic ocean. They sat a little too close to the water and got scared as the tide came in. They were enjoying their time on the beach and started to play soccer. When they were done with soccer they started to walk across the beach and ran into a bunch of little huts and got so excited. When they arrived in the village fishermen sprung up out of his hut, tied all of them up, sat on them, then took all seven of the young boys to his leader.
Kanei, Ishmael, Alhaji, Musa, Jumah, Saidu, Moriba all hiding in bushes after hearing loud sounds.

Kanei, Ishmael, Musa, Jumah, Saidu, and Moriba all playing soccer on the beach and celebrating a goal.
Kanei, Ishmael, Musa, Jumah, Saidu, and Moriba all running to the huts that they stumbled on while walking on the beach.
Kanie, Ishmael, Musa, Jumah, and Moriba all getting poked by the fishermen that attacked them out of nowhere.
The Reason I Selected This Scene:
I selected this scene because it teaches Ishmael and the boys that in great warfare beautiful places still exist. This scene is important because it lets the boys forget about the war that their country is under, and lets them have some fun. I know this because in the story it says “We shouted, laughed, and sang our secondary-schools songs.” The effect this scene had to the plot was that it gave a sense of relief to the book but in the end, the plot thickened when they were attacked by the fishermen and put back into reality. This scene effected Ishmael putting him in a scared state at the beginning because of the loud crashes of the waves that they had never heard before. Then, the scene put him in a happy state because of them celebrating after every goal that they scored when they were playing soccer on the beach. It also put him back into a scared state of mind as the fishermen sprung out on them and captured them because they thought that they were boy soldiers.
