Storyboard Text

  • The urbanization of the Northern colonies made the economy very industrialized, and they got money from making and selling goods.
  • Immigrants in the North worked any job they could to get money, and in the North, they would work in factories.
  • Though they were still treated as less than the white folk, African Americans in the North were freed from slavery and able to work and live.
  • Labor in the South stayed on plantations, which planters would farm cash crops to sell to Europe or others in the South for money.
  • Life for slaves in the South was very based around slave codes they had, which said that slaves were less than their owners and had to work.
  • African Americans were not free in the South, which was a reason many would escape to the North for better treatment than in the South.
