  • Not getting work done
  • The government gave out free wheat to poor citizens but the farmers who grew the wheat had to pay.
  • Farming Issues
  • Why should I give you all my surplus food?
  • Nearly half of the year was made up of holidays. On holidays romans went to watch the Circus Maximus or the Coliseum.
  • Lazy Workers
  • In the city the only two things the romans wanted was "bread and circuses." To get circuses they had to take time of resulting in no work getting done.
  • Farmers had to pay taxes by giving all of their surplus grain to the government or face punishment. This led to unhappy farmers.
  • Because of this tax farmers stop working hard to make a surplus of food because it didn't help them.
