  • we do not know
  • The French Revolution was from 1789-1799. This was the time period when France went away from absolute monarchy and tried to make things more equal for everyone.
  • The Tennis Court Oath
  • We will stay here until we form a new and better constitution
  • There were 5 reasons for the French Revolution. One is that there was bad harvests. Because of that, the price of bread (the staple food) got really high and peasants started starving. Another was that there was high taxes on the poor people. People of the low class were angered by the estates (social classes) and wanted change. The last is that disturbing questions were raised during the Enlightenment making the people question things.
  • The Storming of Bastille
  • The French government started having financial problems. He called a meeting of the Estates General in 1789 to discuss them. This was a big deal because they had not had to call this type of meeting since 1614.
  • The Great Fear
  • We are so scared!
  • The people leading the Revolution were inspired by the American's Declaration of Independence. They declared to stay at the tennis courts at the Palace of Versailles until they had accomplished a similar document. Their goal was to form a new and fair constitution.
  • The French revolutionaries stormed a prison called Bastille. They did this because there was gunpowder and equipment they needed inside. They freed the prisoners and burned it to the ground.
  • We will burn it and take everything of value inside!
  • The Great Fear was a period of panic and riots. The peasants started going against their lords and burning important documents. It was started by peasants who were sick of having no power, and it was fueled by a false rumor they heard.
