What do you think? Me and June Designed the landscaping ourselves. We planted that tree on our first day living in the house. We wanted it yo symbolize out love and the beginning of the rest of our lives together.
You two must be very fond of each eachother.
As fond of each other as “lovers” should be. Let’s sit on the porch for a bit, it’s a nice day.
This makes me miss Yixing
Well of course I'm allowed to flirt with my boyfriend.
Ooooh a boyfriend?
The man she likes to flirt with at the local market.
The rest of the drive was silent after that. Maybe it was that they didn’t know what to say or the sudden mention of their late mother brought the mood down but the ride went from pleasant to uncomfortable. June rest her head on the window and closed her eyes thinking of ways to relieve the almost suffocating atmosphere. The twins on the other hand stared out the window. Chwun Hwa looked in admiration and awe while Chwun Yu looked almost disinterested but still continued to gaze at the ever changing scenery. CHAD (pulling into the driveway of a medium-sized family home. He smiled at June and the twins, the tension began to dwindle)
I'd hate to interrupt this but, would anyone like something to drink? Iced tea? Water? Lemonade?
I'll have lemonade honey.
I'll have an iced tea and she'll take a water please.
They all exited the car. Chad grabbed the luggage and took it inside while the twins took in their surroundings. The house had two stories with a basement and an attic. The outside was a light tan color with black shutters accompanying every set of windows. The front porch was quite large and had a beautiful wooden banister around the outside. The front yard looked like it was neatly kept but since it was early March it was hard to tell. CHAD (he wraps his arm around June’s shoulder. He points to a rather small but healthy looking tree on the outskirts of their yard) CHWUN YU (She smiles with the thought that her sister found an exceptionally good man for herself) JUNE A slight blush apparent on her cheeks, she let out a light chuckle) (They all move up the stairs to the porch and sit in the seating around the outdoor coffee table that’s been set up on the left portion of the porch)
So tell me about this Yixing guy.
Well, he works at his family's market, he's tall and handsome and really funny.
A real catch.
CHWUN HWA (Sighing. Her gaze falls to the floor) JUNE (her brow raises as she asks the question) CHWUN YU (dismissively) CHWUN HWA (defensively) JUNE (Teasingly)
How about we go after we all finish our drinks?
That sounds like a plan. Hey, don’t worry guys. Mama will be excited to finally meet you.
Say anything. Tell her about Yixing. I’m sure she’d love to know you found a lovely man for yourself. Last time you told about your dream to become an author. Explain an idea for a book to her or just talk about how things are for you.
We know. It’s just a little nerve racking, I don’t know what to say.
CHAD (Rises. He looks between the girls expectantly) (Chad leaves and the girls continue their conversation)
CHWUN YU (sarcastically) CHWUN HWA (in defense of Yixing) Chwun Yu rolls her eyes and Chad enters the scene. He gives them their respective drinks and sits down next to June. Silence falls upon the group as the girls decided not to continue their conversation with Chad around.
He treats me with respect and is always there when I need him. You can't be too picky when it comes to men.
(Chad says in hopes of starting up a conversation) JUNE (Quietly. The twin’s smiles disappeared and looks of worry were now present. She smiles reassuringly They all sit there in thought. Each suddenly sipping at their drinks more often, a sudden urge to get to the cemetery taking over them. Chwun Yu was the first to finish her drink, she sat patiently and waited for the rest to finish. Chwun Hwa finished last and June took the cups inside as Chad let the twins to the car. June exits her home and locks the door before lightly jogging to the car and getting back into the passenger seat.
