give "process praise" rather than "person praise"
I wrote a few more recommendations for your final draft. I look forward to your final revision.
Angela, the second draft of your speech contains more supporting details and shows correct use of conventions. I can tell you are paying more attention to the rubric.
You're right, Ms. Allen! I read through the rubric a couple of times just as you suggested. It really was helpful! Thanks!
Okay! I'll work on it, Ms. Allen!
link success to effort rather than intelligence
Everyone did a good job for scoring high in the test, but I especially commend Ricky for having shown the biggest improvement. His effort in taking detailed notes and reviewing them regularly has made him successful.
Thanks! I promise to take notes every day!
Great work, Ricky!
present failure as a learning experience
I recognize your efforts to put in relevant content in your work even after the deadline, Ray. But I believe you're aware you could've turned it in on time... what can you do next time?
I'm sorry for handing in my assignment late, Ms. Allen. I needed more time to study for my Chinese test. I hope you'll still accept it...
Sorry, I didn't work on it when I had the time and waited until the last day... I'll use time wisely next time.
