  • Oil Spills in Mexico  By: Lizzy Gallagher
  • Oils spills cause a bunch of damage. One is the spills contaminate clean water. In Mexico, the 1979 oil spill spilt 3.3 billion barrels of oil. That is a huge amount of oil that has just been released into the ocean. It traveled all the way to the Texas shoreline which is 367 miles away.
  • Oils spills also affected animals. Many fishermen stated how because of the spill, they were catching fish with red eyes. Many other ecosystems of other species were destroyed after the spill. And many other studies have been able to prove this too.
  • In addition to contaminating water and affecting animals, oil spills also hurt us. Because of the dirty water, the citizens of Mexico don't have good drinking water. Plus, with hurricane seasons and the changing currents, the oil can keep coming to their shores, so these people have to live this nightmare for a long time.
  • As you can see, oil spills cause a ton of damage that is very devastating. These oil spills hurt animals, humans, and dirty our water.
