Reasons for Reformation
In the first place, on the eve of reformation the church suffered from numerous evil practices which greatly undermined the reputation of the church and the churchmen. This effects us today because if it was not for the reformation we would not be here right now.
Diet of Worms
Authorized by the Catholic Church to absolve penitents from the guilt of his sins and from punishment in inferno of the here after, but it did not solve them from doing penance on earth. This effects us now because if indulgences were not stopped we would have really high crime rates.
Martin Luther announced them at a moment in history ripe for religious reformation. this effected us because we would not be able to think on our own if he never put the 95 these on the church.
Luther went before the Diet. In response to questioning, he admitted that the books displayed before the court were his, but, when asked to get rid of them, he requested time to consider the question. This is what helped spread the ideas to give the people rights.
But perhaps Luther's greatest achievement was the German Bible. No other work has had as strong an impact on a nation's development and heritage as has this Book.
A violent system of punishments for offenders was usually enough to put off peasants from causing trouble. This affected us now because it caused the church officials to flee.
