Storyboard Text

  • Hi, I´m Dr.Hart! Come follow me back to my office so we can take your blood pressure.
  • Blood pressure is produced by the resistance of blood vessels. I will perform this by using a stethoscope!
  • Blood pressure is systolic over diastolic. This means the pressure in the heart arteries during contraction of the ventricles over the pressure in the heart arteries at rest.
  • Sit up straight for me, with your back against the chair and legs uncrossed. Now, rest your left forearm on the table with the palm of your hand facing up. Your blood pressure is 129 over 85 which is considered high.
  • Blood pressure is important because the higher your blood pressure is, the higher your risk of health problems in the future. If your blood pressure is high, you could experience heart pains, strokes, coronary heart disease, or even death.
  • Blood pressure is affected by time of day, the foods you eat, and stress. Lack of physical activity and too much salt in your diet can also contribute to high blood pressure. I will come back in a few to talk about some solutions!
