  • This scene shows symbolism. The Ghost of Christmas Past symbolizes death. He symbolizes death because he is wearing all black and is faceless.
  • I fear you more than any specter that has visited me.
  • This scene shows the theme of the story. The theme of the story is that money is not the measurement of happiness. This is shown because the Cratchitts are a poor family, but are very happy on Christmas. This is because you can be happy with love and family. Scrooge is very rich but very unhappy.

  • This scene shows indirect characterization. This is because it shows all Scrooge cares about is money. It shows that he does not think poor people have the right to be happy.

  • This scene shows internal conflict. Scrooge is going through an internal conflict because he was very lonely and wonders how he could've avoided being like that.

  • This scene shows symbolism. In this scene, Marley's chains represent all the bad deeds he didn't in his life time. He tells Scrooge that Scrooge had the same amount of chains as Marley didn't 7 years ago
