  • Crete
  • King Minos of Crete defeats King Aegeus of Athens and demands that every year the Athenians send 14 young men and women to Crete to be sacrificed to a half bull, half man beast called a minotaur.
  • Theseus volunteers to go in order to kill the minotaur and upon his arrival, he is gifted a ball of string and a sword from King Minos's daughter.
  • Theseus and the other 13 young men and women enter the labyrinth and Theseus uses the ball of string to mark his path throughout the maze.
  • Theseus slays the Minotaur using the sword and leaves to return to Athens, forgetting to switch to the white sail.
  • Theseus's father, after seeing the black sail, presumed his son was dead and threw himself into the sea now known as the Aegean
  • Theseus assumes the throne of his father, becoming the king of Athens.
