King Minos of Crete defeats King Aegeus of Athens and demands that every year the Athenians send 14 young men and women to Crete to be sacrificed to a half bull, half man beast called a minotaur.
Theseus volunteers to go in order to kill the minotaur and upon his arrival, he is gifted a ball of string and a sword from King Minos's daughter.
Theseus and the other 13 young men and women enter the labyrinth and Theseus uses the ball of string to mark his path throughout the maze.
Theseus slays the Minotaur using the sword and leaves to return to Athens, forgetting to switch to the white sail.
Theseus's father, after seeing the black sail, presumed his son was dead and threw himself into the sea now known as the Aegean
Theseus assumes the throne of his father, becoming the king of Athens.
