I'm so thirsty! Two of my camels are dead :(
The journey across the Sahara was difficult; they faced heat, dehydration, and a lack of food.
The caravans stopped in Taghaza, and traded them food in exchange for salt.
To enter Ghana, traders had to pay a tax, which helped Ghana pay for armies.
When stopping in the capital city of Kumbi, traders could acquire goods like jewelry, weapons, and leather.
Traders also had to pay a tax when leaving Ghana, making the Ghana empire very wealthy from the gold-salt trade.
The Wangarans, using the silent barter system, were able to obtain the salt that they needed from the traders.
