The British are beginning to be attacked by the British so they retreat and cross the Deleware River staying safe and away from the British.
Start to Attack the Hessians
General Washington has General Lee and General Gates each bring their army and join together to create a larger army, because they plan to attack the Hessians. The men meet for dinner and they all plan to attack the Hessians on Dec. 26th.
Hessians Struggle to Fight Back
The men start loading into boats and crossing the Deleware River at 5:30 pm on Dec. 25th. They take longer than expected and won't be able to attack the Hessians until 8:00 am Dec. 26th. When they all cross they split into two groups and march toward Trenton from different sides.
Americans Win the Battle of Trenton
While marching the Americans come across the Hessian guard house, General Washington ordered two men to go inside and kill the 4 Hessians inside. Then the Americans arrive at Trenton and wait till 8:00 am to actually attack the Hessians.
The Hessians not even fully awake yet struggle to group themselves and cannot find all of their materials including the cannons. Many of the Hessians were shot including their leader causing them to surrender. Their leader was slowly dying but wouldn't surrender unless he could say it to General Washington himself.
After their leader dies and surrenders General Washington takes all of the wounded soldiers and the ones that were still alive. He takes all of their materials like guns, food, and clothing. Then General Washington decides to cross back over the river before any man can go to sleep.
