Storyboard Text

  • Why did they leave me?
  • They are wrong - I am not weak. I feel stronger because I want to prove them wrong.
  • He is too young. He will just slow us down.
  • I will not share my food with him!
  • We do not have to talk to him or feed him!!
  • I stayed strong throughout my journey.  I had to be independent and brave. But here I am now. I built a well for your village and I will build many more for Southern Sudan.
  • Salva was alone and young trying to find safety on his own. A group took him in but one night when they slept in a barn, Salva woke up and found himself all alone! The  group had left him!  Salva wondered why they left him and he was sad. It said in the book that the tears were hot in his eyes. It also says in the text that he wondered why they left without him. Salva was sad in this point of the book and he was weak.  He did not know what to do. He had to be independent and strong.
  • While walking in the desert the rebels looted the group that Salva was in. They used uncle's gun and shot uncle. Uncle was the only one who treated Salva good. Now that uncle was dead, the group mistreated Salva. They did not give him food nor company. It says in the book that this made Salva feel stronger because he wanted to prove them wrong and show them he was not weak or too young. In this point of the book he is stronger and more independent than in the beginning of the book because he now has to find a way too get food and it says in the book he feels stronger.
  • Salva got the chance to go to America and he was independent and brave and took the offer. After in America for some time his cousin emailed him and told him that his dad was alive but in the hospital sick from dirty water. This inspired Salva.  He wanted to help so he independently came up with the idea to build wells for Southern Sudan to help them get clean water.  After he thought about the idea, he asked people for help and now he collects money from people and schools all over the world and uses that money to build wells.  In this point in the book Salva had grown into a very independent and compassionate man.
