  • Capitalism
  • what do you mean you want a raise? Im already paying you 12 cents an hour!!
  • Karl Marx Model
  • Social Class Inequality
  • Capitalism is an economic system where a small percentage of the population own majority of the wealth, power and resources. This economic systems, survives on conflict, inequality and false hope from the working class, who are set up to believe that they can achieve a capitalist lifestyle.
  • Ideology
  • "For 3 small Payments of $64.99 this super turbo coffee maker can be yours!"
  • My coffee maker is so slow and already a couple months old! Thank god i saw this.
  • Karl Marx has a model made up of 3 classes, Bourgeoisie- born into a life of luxury, have no finical worries, capitalists. , Petite Bourgeoisie- professionals, believe they can achieve the rank of bourgeoisie, creates ideology. and Working class- barley making ends meat, working majority of lifetime, life of struggles.
  • To Kill A Mockingbird Example
  • In capitalism there isn't much room for social mobility. The social class you are born into, tends to be the class you stay in. This divides the classes, and provides unfair opportunities, where the richest at the top reap most of the rewards and the ones on the bottom see little to none. This is also based on your race and gender and your prestige in the community.
  • To Kill a Mockingbird Example
  • Ideology is a a set of a values, beliefs and morals a society follows, thats created by the Petite Bourgeoisie . It is used to keep capitalism up and running by influencing peoples spending habits and as well, putting in the idea that people can achieve social mobility easy and aren't stuck in the social class they are in.
  • In the small town of Maycomb, majority of the town had very little wealth, however there was still a social class order, very visable in the story. Atticus can be seen as a Petite Bourgeoisie for the small town of Maycomb. Though he doesn't consider himself rich, he is a lawyer, which labels him as a professional. As well he is well respected in Maycomb which provides him with a very high prestige.
  • Though Karl Marx has a three class Model, the town of Maycomb actually creates a fourth social Class, based solely on Race and that is the African Americans. In Maycomb the African American People are the very worst class you can be in, and for them there is absolutly no room for Social Mobility. They are seen lower than the worst people in town (The Ewells), and no amount of income or wealth could possibly change that.
