The symbol is Stones. The stones represent a weapon to beat up the person who got lottery. Line 320-321: "The children had stones already, and someone gave little Davy Hutchinson a few pebbles." And then later, on lines 328-329: "...then they were upon her."
Tone and Theme
"All right, folks, Let's finish quickly."
This part made me really image what had happened. On lines 328-329 it states, "...Mrs.Huchinson screamed and then they were upon her."
Repetition kept occurring when Mr. Hutchinson got Lottery, Tessie said line 230, Tessie says, "I saw you. It wasn't fair!" And later on when they redid the lottery with the Huchinson family, and Tessie got, so right before they killed her with stones, she says line 328, " It isn't fair, it isn't right"
The tone of the story for me was suspenseful. It is suspenseful because you would think that the lottery is something nice like the one we know, especially since it started out really bright like line 1-2, "...clear and sunny with fresh warmth of a full summer day."But in the end, you would start to realize that that it gets dark, for example line 309, "All right, folks,... Let's finish quickly."
