Storyboard Text

  • Secondary succession starts, when a natural disaster strikes, causing a happy little ecosystem to collapse, burn or perish. For example: a forest fire, tsunami  or hurricane.
  • step 1
  • A fire can last up to  a whole year ,even through  the winter!
  • step 2
  • The disaster continues   for a little while then stops. All that remains is fresh dirt on the ground . The  natural disaster has left the  ecosystem perished.
  • In some case's,  a natural  disaster can be good for the envoirement!
  • step 3
  • Then, pioneer plants, such as grass, moss, lichens and more start to  grow on the dirt. Also, small species  begin  to move back to their home.
  • Let's use a forest fire for example. The fire will burn the soil, which will help kill the bacteria and reproduce fresher soil
  • step 4
  • Next,  bushes, shrubs and flowers start growing on the top of grass, moss, lichens and more.
  • step 5
  • Tree's begin to grow , along with the bushes, shrubs , grass, moss and lichens. As well, more species are coming into our ecosystem!
  • step 6
  • Finally, our ecosystem is looking good again! We are left with a full forest growing healthy!
  • Sometimes, it can take up to 65 years for a full ecosystem to grow from after a fire
