John, son of a priest, begins his journey at the initiation to priesthood. He sees three deer traveling east, toward the Forbidden Land of the Gods. Although it is forbidden, he follows them because he must follow the sign to his journey. Thus he sets off east.
He arrives at the river that separates the Land of the Gods from the rest of the world. He prepares himself for death because no one who has traveled her has returned. Then he crosses the river and truly begins his journey.
In the Land of the Gods, he encounters many struggles, includins a ravenous pack of wild dogs. The dogs chase him into a building. Once inside, John begins to explore. He discovers many things he's never seen before, including evideince of the Gods' "magic."
Eventually, John falls asleep, tired from him adventure so far. During his slumber he had this vision. He was above the city and the Gods were fighting with mighty weapons he's never even dreamed of. They were destroying each other and the great things they had built.
when he wakes up, he walks into a room with a God sitting in a chair, motionless. John thinks it's alive but then realizes it isn't. He looks closer until he realized that these Gods, are merely men.
John returns home from the forbidden lands to tell his father of his journey and all that he had learned. He shares all the details about his groundbreaking discovery and how the Land of the Gods is safe for people. His father says that there will now be more trips to learn as much as possible.
