Storyboard Text

  • Now we will calculate the distance of my shot.
  • I have calculated the equation of the parabola of my shot; d= -h2 +9h +2 , d representing the distance and h representing the height.
  • I wish we had a game day instead!
  • yeah, this looks hard :(
  • It's not that hard once you get the hang of it.
  • All you have to do is plug the numbers from the equation into the quadreatic formula.
  • How do I know which numbers go in for a, b, and c?
  • The equation I gave you for the parabola is written in this format.
  • Oh, that makes sense! So we just substitute the values from the equation into the formula
  • ax2 + bx + c = 0
  • Yep! That's exactly how you do it
  • Who wants to solve for the x-intercepts to determine how far I can shoot?
  • I will!
  • Good work! We only use one of the answers because the negative one is the extraneous solution         (I would not throw a negative distance)
  • So that means you can shoot 9.22 meters! AMAZING!
