Peter Blow was Dred Scott's former salve master but after Blow died Dred Scott got sold to an army surgeon, Dr. John Emerson.
Dred Scott met and married a slave named Harriet Robinson, and her ownership was transferred to Emerson.
The couple and Mrs. Emerson were living in St. Louis by then, and Scott offered her $300 for their manumission. She refused. Both Scotts took the matter to court, filing separately; they had lived for extended periods in a free territory, and he had lived in a free state.
Dred Scott fought for his freedom for 10 years.
Dred Scott finally got freed, but for some time they sold him to be a slave again.
Dred Scott died on September 17, 1858
