  • Rising Action
  • Climax
  • George and Lennie had to run away from Weed and they hid out in a nearby irrigation ditch until their chasers stopped looking for them. Then they stayed there for the night, instead of going to their new job opportunity.
  • Falling Action
  • Now George won't let me tend the rabbits!
  • George and Lennie start working on the farm. Lennie is shown to be a "pro" barley bucker.
  • Resolution
  • Carlson and Slim convince Candy to let go of his dog. Carlson shoots Candy's dog in the back of the neck.
  • Literary Device: Foreshadowing
  • Lennie kills his puppy because the puppy was biting him. Curley's Wife comes in and tries to make Lennie feel better, but Lennie ends up killing her too by snapping her neck.
  • George finds out what Lennie has done and he knows where Lennie is hiding out. George finds Lennie and then George kills Lennie with Carlson's shotgun. George shoots Lennie right where Carlson shot Candy's dog. After Lennie is dead, Slim gets George and they go out for drinks.
  • All of these events from the shooting of Candy's dog to the girl back in Weed. they have all led to the ending of the book because the girl back in Weed foreshadowed the death of Curley's Wife and the shooting of Candy's dog foreshadowed the death of Lennie because they were shot in the same place.
