  • Emancipation Proclamation
  • 54th Massachusetts Infantry
  • Clara Barton
  • In 1862, Lincoln wrote the Emancipation Proclamation. This was an order to free slaves in only area controlled by the confederacy. 
  • Pickett's Charge
  • This consisted of mostly African American People.This led to a heroic charge on Fort Wagner in South Carolina. They took fore and had many casualties. About half of the 54th was wounded, captured, or killed. 
  • Gettysburg Address
  • Clara Barton was a volunteer who assisted doctors during the war. She would organize the medication and supplies. She later became the founder of the American Red Cross. 
  • William Tecumseh Sherman
  • A speech given by President Lincoln. In his speech he said that he was proud of the Union and their bravery. This is one of the most well known speeches throughout America. 
  • To win the re-election in 1864, Lincoln needed a Union victory. Sherman got 100,000 troops to march with. They marched south from Tennessee. Sherman's plan was to destroy the Southern railroads and industries. This led to Lincoln winning re-election.
