the Paleo Peroid was the first native american cultural group in north America they traveled around continents during the ice age period. they moved a lot because they were nomadic which means they follow their food . such as mammoths ,deer's ,and large sloths . to be able to hunt these animals they would use weapons like knifes and spears and the also developed the atlatl the paleo period ended towards the ice age.
the archaic Indians. The archaic people relied on small animals such as deer's, turkeys and rabbit .the archaic people were hunters and gathers . the archaic people contributed in pottery with pottery they were able to collect and cook food. they will also store there food for a long time before moving to a new location . sense they were hunters and gathers all they had to do was pack up there houses dear skin and move to a new area.
the woodlands began in 1000b this time period the woodlands had developed horticulture .which means the process of growing crops and food. they grew greens squash in rows and harvested them later. they actually developed the bow and arrow to improve there hunting. they started to form tribes and permanent villages . the woodlands also created symbolic images or structures that represented a sacred animal.
the Mississippians began around 1000a.d. the Mississippians used agricultural skills like there ancestors. they grew corn . beans, pumpkin, and tobacco. the Mississippians will also store there food in storehouses for later use. the Mississippians people , and they were able to develop large settlements . the Mississippians had chiefs which lived on top of mounds the Mississippians created.
in the European countries the English/british French and Spanish came for something. the English/British came to establish colonies, collect ,slaves and protect protestants. the Spanish came for gold and to spread Christianity and spread Catholicism and build colonies and the French wanted to collect fur. one thing that the old world brought back with them was diseases like smallpox. native Americans died from smallpox and the measles due to contact with the Europeans.
Hernando de Soto was a Spanish explorer and conquistador who led the first European expedition deep into the territory of the modern-day United States, and the first documented European to have crossed the Mississippi River. Hernando de soto was searching for gold.
