  • Mexico welcomes many Anglo-american immigrants
  • Welcome to Tejas
  • 1835 New Dictator of Mexico
  • I declare myself Dictator!
  • Battle of Gonzales
  • Come and Take It
  • Mexico hoped these Anglo-Americans would become loyal Mexicans and keep the United States from having this territory. While they hoped they would become loyal Mexicans the instead made their own schools, spoke English, and had closer trading to the U.S.
  • Battle of the Alamo
  • Break down the wall!
  • Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna became the new dictator in 1835 by overthrowing the constitution. He felt his rise in power would be used by the Americans to secede. 
  • Battle of San Jacinto
  • Remember the Alamo!
  • Castenda was sent to retrieve the cannon from the Americans but they said to just "Come and Take It."
  • Texas Statehood
  • Santa Anna said to take no prisoners. The Texans held the Alamo for 13 days before the Mexican forces broke through. For the Texans, this battle was a symbol of heroic resistance and a rallying cry in their struggle for independence. 
  • In the Battle of San Jacinto lasted less than 20 minutes but, gained territory for the U.S. In 1848 the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo was signed and ended the Mexican war. 
  • Texas statehood happened in 1845 entering the union as a slave state. Entering as a slave state was a problem because it broadened the issue of slavery and ignited the Mexican and america war.
